CALL FOR CHAPTERS: DL 15th September, 2025
In 2024, the Finnish Society for Futures Studies introduced the first volume of Our World of Futures Studies as a Mosaic. Building on the positive feedback received for this publication, we are now inviting authors to contribute to the second installment, Our World of Futures Studies as a Mosaic, Part 2.

This forthcoming edition expands on the ambition and objectives of the first volume, aiming to complement the mosaic of diverse approaches to futures studies and foresight with perspectives from across the globe. Similarly to Part 1, this new volume seeks to recognise and draw insights from the variety of contexts, traditions, and perspectives that together enrich the field of futures studies.
Adhering to the metaphor of a mosaic, the series continues to conceptualise each contribution as a unique piece of a larger composition. Rather than striving for an exhaustive representation, the focus remains on crafting a reflective and inspirational collection that underscores the richness and diversity inherent in the field.
Authors are encouraged to contribute with chapters that reflect the histories, traditions, schools of thoughts, people, practices, and forward-looking perspectives of their respective regions or networks, thereby fostering mutual learning and deeper understanding within the global futures studies community. It is through such collaborative efforts that we aim to advance the construction of this intricate mosaic, layer by layer and perspective by perspective.
We invite submissions in the form of
- peer-reviewed articles (double-blind, two reviewers, 30 000 – 35 000 characters with spacing),
- articles without peer review (30 000 – 35 000 characters with spacing), and
- reviews (10 000 – 15 000 characters with spacing).
Please submit your abstract by 15 September 2025 via the linked form: https://bit.ly/mosaic2abstract
For the accepted abstracts, the manuscript submission deadline is 15 January 2026. To support collaboration and engagement, we will host a joint kick-off session with authors of accepted abstracts on 25th September, 2025 at 3 pm EET (12 noon GMT). The peer-review process will take place in January through March, so the authors should also prepare to be available for rewrites in February to April, 2026.
If a manuscript is not accepted by the reviewers and the required changes cannot be made within the timeline, the editors can offer the writers an option to have their text published as a non-peer-reviewed article, or the writers can choose to submit the manuscript to be published later in the Futura journal, instead. The finalised volume will be published in the summer of 2026.
Our World of Futures Studies as a Mosaic, Part 2 is edited by Tero Villman, Sirkka Heinonen, and Hazel Salminen.
Please note that chapter contributions are on a voluntary basis and not remunerated. Contributors will be fully credited in the publication. The copyrights are held by the Authors and the Finnish Society for Futures Studies.
Once completed, the publication will be made available openly in digital format. The Finnish Society for Futures Studies maintains the option to make physical copies of the publication.
